The Walgreens Company was founded by Charles Walgreens Sr in 1901 with a small store located in Barrett’s Hotel at Cottage Grove and Bowen Avenue on Chicago’s South Side. Over the next century, the company opened more than 8,000 stores across the nation, becoming “America’s most trusted pharmacy”.
With more than $76 billion in sales and 213,000 employees, Walgreens ranks #35 in Fortune Magazine list of largest companies. More importantly, the company ranks 41st of the 50 most admired companies in the world.

A Win for Everyone
No one had ever built a large-scale production facility with the specific intent to have one-third of its workforce composed of people with disabilities -all performing the same jobs, held to the same performance standards, earning the same pay, working side-by-side. As the word got out about what we were doing, both ABC and NBC sent a team down to see what this was all about.
